The World AIDS Day and HIV/AIDS Awareness Program organized by the Red Ribbon Club- Anderson Theological College in collaboration with District AIDS Control and Prevention Unit (DACPU) concluded successfully, marking a significant stride in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS which extended beyond the college community to surrounding village GBs, elders, and church leaders. This broadened participation not only enhanced the impact of the program but also facilitated a collaborative approach to addressing HIV/AIDS awareness.
The event featured an insightful and engaging session led by Mr. Hokishe Chophy, the District Program Officer (DPO). Mr. Hokishe’s expertise and profound knowledge in the field of HIV/AIDS brought a unique perspective to the program, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in dispelling myths and reducing stigma, capturing the attention of the audience and ensuring the spreading of crucial information related to HIV/AIDS. The participants had access to accurate and up-to-date information about HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, and support services. In addition, the Red Ribbon Club members of the college showcased their creativity and commitment by presenting a short play on HIV/AIDS awareness, effectively conveying key messages about prevention and destigmatization. Furthermore, the program featured testimony from the President, Network of Zunheboto PLHIV+ & AIDS creating awareness and also promoted an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
Following the informative sessions and activities, a medical team, conducted health screenings. These screenings were not only limited to Anderson Theological College but also extended to GMS Aizuto, GHS Apukito, and neighbouring villages.
The event stands as a commendable effort in the ongoing global fight against HIV/AIDS, fostering a sense of responsibility and solidarity among the participants and achieved its objectives in educating and empowering the community.
The day ended with distribution of educational materials in the form of Badges, Key Chains, and Pop Sockets to the Red Ribbon Club Members provided by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society.
